I attended a cousin’s wedding this weekend. One of my paternal cousins that I am close to, which is saying something ‘cause I have precisely fourteen cousins (immediate cousins from my dad’s side of the family)…Anyway. He’s just one of those few people in my paternal family who understands/accepts me for the different crazy weirdo I am, so attending his wedding was not really of any doubt even though Dad had to cancel his trip at the eleventh hour. A seven hour journey for Mum and me, and sixteen hour days (Saturday and Sunday so a total of thirty six hours) actually went by faster than we expected!
I met the families of my dad’s seven siblings, and tried very hard to keep track of which of my nieces and nephews belonged to which cousin. That doesn’t sound right, but you get it, right? Big families, lots of people, and now lots of babies. I’m meeting these people after almost six years and though I remember all my cousins, and am aware of where they are, what they’re doing, and which ones are married, I do not remember to whom they are married, or how many kids they have. It was really cool! Fun and very very nice to be part of this very noisy event! My questions about the rituals performed (which are rather different from what tradition dictates because both sides of my family are believers of the Almighty, but neither are religious beyond a certain limit; which tends to make even weddings a little bit of a non-conforming event than what most people here are used to) had my Mum flexing her fingers dangerously close to my neck. I, once again, wore a saree which shocked all and sundry who’ve always known me to be of the tom-boy sort. Of course the straightened hair left no doubt in their minds that I wouldn’t let go of the city-girl in me!! Oh and the black nail polish and the humming of songs and the mimicking of drums.
Arrived a wee bit late for work, but was in long before a meeting with my customer which enabled me to press the phone to my ear till it turned red and eventually get assigned work for two projects, both of which have deadlines this week!!
Did I mention I love home and I miss it?? Well, I must mention that. It’s home!!
My uncle, the father of the groom, has this awesome collection of books and he’s been reading/collecting for over fifty years. I brought back only eight (Irving Wallace, Ken Follet, Eric Segal and Lawrence Sanders) since that’s all I could stuff into my bags and Mum refused to carry an extra one. But I honestly don’t mind travelling for seven or eight hours (one way) to just bring back some. They’re books!! I’ve been saying this to several people that I would love to be buried with my books, or in a library…or at least that I die and go to library heaven even if it’s in hell.
Oh la la!!
I’ve been listening to a lot of Simple Plan since I returned from home last weekend, thanks to my sister, and they’re a decent band. Good and nice to listen to really. They’re the funky type, not something I’d normally listen to, but they really are good. Two songs in particular Me Against The World, You’re Love Is A Lie.
Ich should start off on the work. Ich muss.
Two weekends out, one at home and the other with a family I would’ve loved to know better but prefer to keep my distance, and I feel absolutely refreshed!!
P.S. Chelsea won their FA cup match! And Hiddink is the new manager. Come on GUUS !! C’mon Chelsea!!
Gossip mill – Manchester City to bid for John Terry. WTH?? I read it somewhere…hence the word ‘gossip’ since I find no truth in it. But he hasn’t played in soooo long! Thought it would be relevant to mention here that’s all. After all, they are my team!!
